The Church of All Nations (also knows as the Basilica of the Agony) is built on the traditional site where Jesus is said to have prayed following the Last Supper.
The first church was built there in 379 A.D but was later destroyed by an earthquake. In the 12th Century, the Crusaders erected a second church but it was later abandoned. The present church was completed in 1924.
The church takes its name from the numerous nations who donated mosaics. These nations include Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Italy, France, Spain, England, Belgium, Canada, Germany and the United States.
The name Gethsemane comes from the Hebrew gat shemanim, which means oil press, or oil stores.
